Spreadsheets for Rodmakers

Step_Down_Dimensions.ods and Step_Down_Dimensions.xlsx

This spread sheet is designed to run strictly on LibreOffice Calc, which is open source software that covers the same kinds of things as MS Office. It’s a graphical representation of the dimensions needed for the user to machine their own step down ferrules, based on the Payne design. It will give the user all the dimensions necessary for ferrule sizes 9 through 17. All the user has to do is insert the ferrule size in the cell just above the graphic and click the green check button or hit the return key. The .xlsx version is the same spread sheet as the Calc version, this one designed to operate on the newer versions of Excel. Same operating instructions.

PayneStepdownFerrules.xlsx

Excel spread sheet that works in either Excel or Calc and is just the list in spreadsheet format of the dimensions used in the other two graphical representation spreadsheets.

Section_Calculator-1.xls

An easy to use rod section calculator for both two and three piece rods.  Requires a bit of data entry, mostly self explanatory, but has some instructions for the data entry if someone gets confused. This spreadsheet works both with Calc and Excel.

These spread sheets were originally created by Jerry Madigan quite a few years ago. Mark Wendt updated them to 2026 so they can be used with the modern versions of Excel and Calc.
